Pay Range : $21.05 – $25.25

The Agency for Community Transit (ACT) is seeking a full-time dispatcher to ensure the completion of ADA and other eligible specialized Paratransit operations by scheduling, directing and supporting drivers, handling both radio and telephone traffic, and enforcing adherence to starting times and established time points by drivers performing routes.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Communicates Agency policies and services as requested by customers and staff in a courteous and helpful manner.
  • Answers and refers telephone calls or other inquiries to ensure accurate and timely communications using professional attitude language and attitude (e.g. Lost & Found function, communicating with outside client groups and emergency personnel).
  • Dispatches information to and between drivers regarding stops, passengers, schedules, safety messages, time checks, and unusual operational issues such as accidents, incidents and general schedule variations.
  • Operates two-way radio system in accordance with established company rules and regulations to communicate with base information relevant to the safe and prompt movement of the transit vehicle (e.g., reporting disruption of service such as vehicle accidents, street closures, mechanical problems).
  • Attends work regularly.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of street network in and around Madison County required.
  • Possess well-developed customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain, in a confidential manner, all information received.
  • Excellent oral communication skills are essential to the position.
  • Experience using Microsoft software applications.
  • Clean and neat appearance.
  • Previous experience working with ADA regulations in skilled nursing facilities and/or group home preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Normal working conditions for this position are typical of an office environment.  May be required work shifts scheduled between early mornings and late evenings including Saturday.  The position requires a capacity to work beyond standard office hours when needed to address critical deadlines.

 Physical requirements of the position include sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard or other office equipment.  Must have the ability to sit for long periods of time.  Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone.
